Getting Started

Want to know how to get Digital Music? Here is the breakdown:

First, there are many websites now that legally sell music online. They typically cost around 99 cents per song, or ten bucks for an album. For a list of sites that sell music on the net, check out Buying Music.

Don’t want to pay? There are some sites out there that offer free legal music downloads, though most consist of unknown bands who put their music up on these sites. For more information, visit Free Music.

The other free option is one that is a little more risky. Since the original Napster was shut down, Peer to Peer (P2P) networking programs have grown in abundance. Using one of these does run you the risk of a law suit from groups like the RIAA, but many people still choose to run that risk in exchange for unlimited free music. Also, beware that with many of these programs comes spyware. For information on what spyware is and how to get rid of it, look at Spyware and Anti-virus page.
